Usizo-Helping Hands distributed winter clothing to the Philani Support Group in Ivory Park on June 27.
Usizo-Helping Hands, a registered Non Profit Organisation (NPO), procured the clothing through various social media campaigns.
“This is a cause that seeks to not only provide relief to the underprivileged, but to provide sustainable solutions to alleviate poverty within their communities,” said Usizo-Helping Hands’ communications officer, Bonnie Chimanikire.
According to Ms Chimanikire, the purpose of the winter drive was to distribute enough winter clothing and food to keep the beneficiaries warm throughout winter.
The Philani Support Group, an organisation founded in October 2001, is involved in orphan care, home-based care and education in Ivory Park.
Ms Chimanikire said the group supports over 466 children and is dependent on donors for its survival.
The group is run by Roland Ogbechiand and Jossanda Tsoai, who are both founders of the Philani Support Group.
She said the Philani Support Group receives support from the Department Of Social Development, the Isandla Sothando Outreach (ISO) and the Every Nation Church.
“The past few years have been very challenging for the Philani Support Group as the needs of the people we support have grown tremendously on a daily basis. We thank the donors, the hardworking volunteers and staff. We also thank Mr Jacob Ledwaba, a social worker, and Ms Phelokazi Dada, a child and youth care worker,” said Ms Chimanikire.
