AN Esther Park family was awakened by kicking at their front door at 3am on Sunday, July 5, as three robbers tried to enter their house.
The couple, in their fifties, their son (26) and their two-year old granddaughter went into hiding after insults were hurled at them by the robbers from the other side of the front door.
“We heard the first kick and all three of us in the house awoke. My husband shouted to find out what was happening, hoping to scare the robbers. He then pressed the panic button and the alarm went off but the kicking continued,” the woman, who does not want her family to be identified, said.
After kicking the door for a few minutes, it finally gave in and three men entered the house.
CCTV footage does not show whether the robbers were armed. They stole a plasma TV and ran out, fleeing the scene in a getaway vehicle.
The woman said the police needed to take strong action against crime in Kempton Park.
“We are not safe in our own homes, the police and security say there is a silver grey Polo involved in criminal activity and it needs to be reported. These people are untraceable, what does it tell you?” asked the grandmother and mother of two.
A case of house robbery was opened with Sebenza SAPS.
