GMDC students celebrated completing their six-week computer and catering course.

The graduation ceremony for students at the Greater Midrand Development Centre (GMDC) took place at the Rabie Ridge Hall on Saturday last week.

GMDC students celebrated completing their six-week computer and catering course.

Certificates were awarded to the students during the ceremony.

Speaking during the event, the GMDC former manager, Mr Lekwane la Phasha who presently works for parliament, said the country can be transformed through education.

“This centre has produced great leaders, some of whom are serving as councillors in the community while others are performing duties in parliament,” he said.

“The rate of unemployment is high. You must become job creators, not job seekers. You must group yourself and form cooperatives in order to survive,” he said.

Some community leaders also groomed at the centre include Councillor Motsumi Leepile and his predecessor, Jacqueline Dase, is now working for the City of Joburg Credit Control Department. Both attended the function.

Clr Leepile encouraged youngsters to approach him if they seek advice.

The GMDC was formed with the sole purpose of addressing skills shortages. In addition, the centre also provides food parcels and clothing to deserving beneficiaries. It also provides financial support to those in dire need.

The centre receives funding from the Department of Social Development.
