Two officers from the EMPD Loss Control & Investigations Unit arrested four men in Tembisa on Tuesday when acting on a tip off from members of the community.
All four suspects ended behind bars when suspected stolen property and an unlicensed firearm were found in the Toyota Quantum they were travelling in. The arrests were effected around 11am.
Chief Supt Wilfred Kgasago, metro police spokesman, said: “After following the white Toyota Quantum with four occupants for a while, the metro officers cornered the vehicle along Andrew Mapheto Drive at Mthambeka Section. Preliminary investigations revealed the firearm found in their vehicle had a Krugersdorp case number, stolen last month.”
All four suspects are Zimbabweans aged between 28 and 40. They were charged with possession of an unlicensed firearm and ammunition at Tembisa Police Station.
