Tembisa group presents new drama play
The main aim of the play is to raise awareness about social issues in order to develop the community through the performances.
The Inkanyezi Theatre, in conjunction with the Sithuthuka Sisonke Drama Players, presented a theatre show titled ‘Shattered Dreams’.
The show is being performed in secondary schools around the country.
The Tembisa-based theatre group offers pupils the opportunity to ask questions and comment on their understanding in every play.
The show has already been performed in and around Gauteng, North West, Free State, Limpopo, Kwa-Zulu Natal and Mpumalanga Provinces.
According to the Sithuthuka Drama Players spokesperson, Ms Phumzile Mlangeni, they will be performing in the remaining provinces in August.
“The main aim of the play is to raise awareness about social issues in order to develop the community through the performances. Shattered Dreams tackles the issues affecting teenagers in this modern world. It revolves around pupils who use substance abuse, teenage pregnancy and the sugar daddies who destroy young teenagers,” she said.
Ms Mlangeni added that the play has been done in a way that it doesn’t only highlight social issues, but also entertains in order for the information to be received without inhibitions.
“Our aim is not to glorify these issues in front of school pupils as it would not be educational. We have made sure that the show’s focus is mostly on the story and what happens if pupils get involved in these things. We also show the consequences of such actions and how it ends, that it not only affects the pupil but many others within the family,” she explained.
She said they aim to encourage young people to not let their mistakes destroy their dreams.
