The Norkem Park Community Police Forum Executive Committee (NPCPF EXCO) thanks its newly appointed station commander, Col Francinah Tshabalala and all the SAPS personnel for their time and effort into making the Norkem Park precinct a safer place for all.

The CPF’s prime concern is to maintain proper and effective policing of the community. In addition, the CPF is and remains fully committed to maintaining the best possible relationship between the police and the community.

There are three Sectors in the Norkem Park precinct and the demarcation is as follows:

Sector 1 (Birchleigh, Van Riebeeck and Esselen Park School of Excellence): Chairperson: Stefan Hough 082 414 3856, Sector 1 vehicle’s contact details: 071 675 6802 or 071 675 6803.

Sector 2 (Birchleigh North, Norkem Park, Green Fields, Old Birch Acres and New Birch Acres): Chairperson: Maritz Jonker 082 461 7172, Sector 2 vehicle’s contact details: 071 675 6804 or 071 675 6805.

Sector 3 (Eldeen, Terrenure, Kempton Park West (Eastern Side of Zeerfontein) and Chloorkop Industrial Side (Eastern Side of Zuurfontein): Chairperson: Lady M Sethabela 082 464 2930, Sector 3 vehicle’s contact details:071 675 6806 or 071 675 6807.

SAPS Act 68 of 1995, legislated that Community Police Forums (CPF) as the only recognised consultative forum designed to permit communities to make their policing concerns known to the police.

The Community Police Forum falls under the SAPS Act and is an integral part of “Sector Policing”. The Community Police Forum objectives according to Sec 18 of SAPS Act, 1995 (Act No 68 of 1995) are as follows:

1) Establishing and maintaining a partnership between the community and the Service.

2) Promoting communication between the Service and the community.

3) Promoting co-operation between the Service and the community in fulfilling the needs of the community regarding policing.

4) Improving the rendering of police services to the community at national, provincial, area and local levels.

5) Improving transparency in the Service and accountability of the Service to the community.

6) Promoting joint problem identification and problem-solving by the Service and the community

The role of the community is as follows:

1) Attending the community police sub forum meetings to discuss action plans with the sector commander in order to deal with crime in the sector.

2) Participating in neighbourhood initiatives to safeguard the area in which they live, work and play.

3) Taking ownership of community policing and support the SAPS in the enforcement of the law.

The Norkem Park CPF is part of a larger national structure that is interconnected with the National SAPS Structure. All residents in the Norkem Park precinct are encouraged to join the current existing structures in the different sectors with regards to patrolling, street committees and neighbourhood watches.
