Man brings road construction work to a standstill
According to eyewitnesses, road construction workers wanted to cut the tree down, as it hindered the progress of their work.
A homeless man refused to get out of a tree which was in the way of road construction work on September 9.
According to eyewitnesses, road construction workers wanted to cut the tree down, as it hindered the progress of their work.
A paper vendor who sells at a nearby traffic light at the corner of Andrew Mapheto Drive and Goerge Nyanga Road, said the homeless man had been living in the tree for three weeks.
“He comes down in the morning, he makes fire by the road, fends for his meal and then he goes back up to sleep. These people only bother him. He has been up there for days,” said the vendor, Kholisani Ndlovu.
The on-lookers suspect the man may be mentally disturbed.
The Tembisa SAPS and the Ekurhuleni Metro Police Department responded to the incident.
City Parks was called to rescue the man.
