Daycare project launched

The project calls on the Tembisa community to come together and assist their local daycares by simply collecting used SASKO bread bags.

The SASKO Siyasizana Daycare Project was officially launched on September 17 at the Ivory Park North Hall.

900 daycare centres attended the launch.

The project calls on the Tembisa community to come together and assist their local daycares by simply collecting used SASKO bread bags.

Brand manager of SASKO Bread, Mr Mohammed Riaz Badroodeen, said not only is SASKO assisting the daycares, they are also creating awareness around pollution and waste reduction.

“Siyasizana – which means we are helping each other – is a project that will see local daycare mamas collecting SASKO bread bags in order to redeem them for much-needed items for their daycare centres,” he said.

“In Tembisa’s households, bread is consumed more than any other starch, and therefore an increasing number of bags go to waste. We decided to call on local daycare mamas to start collecting SASKO bread bags, and reward them for their efforts.

“The bags will be collected and recycled by SASKO and, depending on the amount of bags handed over, participating daycares could receive anything from blankets and chairs, to a microwave or even bigger prizes in return,” said Mr Badroodeen.

SASKO Bread will host a prize-giving event early in January 2016.

To identify creches, SASKO Bread works with a partner company that has a team which is dispatched into the area to identify daycare centres.

“They meet with the creche owners who understand their creche’s requirements and the team introduces the project,” he said.

Mr Badroodeen said the creches get involved on a voluntary basis and receive a Siyasizana Daycare Project Introductory Pack with information about the campaign.
