Co-founder of Kempton Express dies aged 78

He leaves behind his wife, three children and one granddaughter

FORMER Kempton Express owner, Dolf Dreyer (78), passed away in his sleep on Wednesday, October 7, after a long illness.

“It came as a big shock to us when we found out seven weeks ago that Dolf had stage four cancer and that there was nothing the doctor’s could do for him any more,” said Dreyer’s wife, Cynthia.

Dreyer was in high care for two weeks at the Wits University Donald Gordon Medical Centre in Johannesburg where he received chemotherapy.

“We took him to my daughter’s house in Johannesburg on Monday where he could rest after the doctors told us that there is nothing more they can do for him, he couldn’t speak or see near the end and it was a blessed release,” said Cynthia.

Cynthia also explained to EXPRESS that even though Dreyer was retired, he kept himself busy with Forex trading. Although he couldn’t be as sufficient as he would have liked with his recurring kidney problems, Dreyer was always a hard worker in everything he did.

“He was a very loving husband and father and had an absolute love and passion for animals, reading and music, he was an all-rounder. He was a great provider and always made sure to take us on the most wonderful vacations and all three of our children had great educations as well,” said Cynthia.

“We were married for 55 years and throughout our married life with children, Dolf still studied and worked full-time.”

Dreyer was cremated on Saturday and his memorial service was held at his daughter’s house in Johannesburg on Sunday.

He leaves behind his wife, three children and one granddaughter.
