The Ekurhuleni Metropolitan Municipality (EMM) held a service delivery open day in Tembisa on October 9.
Divisional head at the customer relations management department, Thandi Radebe, said the customer service open days are meant to give the government a face so that the community can know government.
“I am deliberately saying government because it’s not only the municipality that is here today. We have provincial and national departments here too.”
Ms Radebe said they have picked up that the city is still experiencing a number of long queues and people are leaving their townships to receive the same services in other areas.
“We want the community of Tembisa to have confidence in the quality of services that we have here. That is why every department is represented to give the community information and also explain to them the content of the information.
“The community is given the opportunity to ask questions. Where they have queries we try and resolve those queries.”
She said the open day was not only about awareness but about understanding the needs of the community.
Community members were encouraged to take their identity documents so that they could update their information with the relevant departments, like the SASSA and IEC.
The Tembisa SAPS communications officer, Constable Patricia Mgijima, said SAPS did a community outreach as well where its services were taken directly to the people of Winnie Mandela in Tembisa.
The SAPS was exhibiting, answering questions and delivering the immediate, necessary service to the community.
