EKURHULENI’s “man of action” was officially sworn into office on Thursday morning.
The new chief of the EMPD, Bafana Andries Mahlabe, was inaugurated into his new role in a ceremony just outside the Germiston Civic Centre.

The ceremony was performed by Gauteng Police commissioner, Lieut-Gen Lesetja Mothiba.
Taking over from Hlula Msimang, who left the post for the City of Johannesburg after completing his five-year term of office, the new chief delivered his introductory address, followed by his first parade inspection.

During his address, the 46-year-old spoke strongly on issues affecting the metro such as hijackings, armed robberies, corrupt police officials, illegal mining, unlawful land grabbing, drug peddling, violent crimes, disruptive service delivery protests and traffic control and by-laws enforcement.
Mahlabe emphasised that he intends on clamping down hard on criminals and gave them a stern warning that “the party is over”.
“The only way to avoid us is by being in a rehabilitation centre, at school or at work. Operation Bumper to Bumper starts now!”
