EKURHULENI Chief of Police, Bafana Mahlabe, together with the executive mayor, Clr Mondli Gungubele, launched the City of Ekurhuleni’s festive season campaign Operation Bumper-to- Bumper: Escalated on Wednesday.
The law enforcement campaign is intended to intensify police visibility, road safety, crime prevention, traffic and by-law enforcement.
The Chief of Police indicated that police visibility would be intensified as many people fell victim to crime during this season.

“To ensure that police presence is felt, we will deploy our Peace Corps who will patrol around shopping malls. There will also be more metro police officers guarding townships, suburbs and various central business districts,” said Mahlabe.
After the official launch, Gungubele took to the streets with a message of safety as he interacted with motorists at a blitz operation on the M2 in Germiston.
Roadblocks, stop and searches, drug peddling, drunken driving, illegal mining, armed robberies, hijackings and land invasions are among the areas on which Operation Bumper-to-Bumper: Escalated will focus. These are all intended to ensure compliance with the law.
While the EMPD focuses on crime and traffic duties, Ekurhuleni Emergency Services will be on high alert and will set up mini-roadside stations on all high-accident routes and major freeways, including the N3, N17, N12 and the Albertina Sisulu Corridor.
