WITH the first phase roll out of free Wi-Fi in Ekurhuleni, only four municipal buildings have been equipped with Wi-Fi hot spots.
These buildings are Birchleigh Clinic, Birchleigh Library, Bonaero Park Clinic and Bonaero Park Library.
These premises consist of two to three hot spots which enable multiple people to connect at the same time in and around the facility.

According to Themba Gadebe, metro spokesman, the first phase for free public Wi-Fi focused on libraries and clinics across Ekurhuleni.
The next phase will see all customer care centres completed by the end of February next year.
This will be followed by other municipal buildings and places like parks and community halls.
Gadebe said to date about 100 000 people have connected to the Internet via Ekurhuleni Free Wi-Fi. The project implementation will continue for the next 24 months, aiming to connect all 695 Ekurhuleni offices that are in areas where there is a high density of people.
“Once this is complete, we will initiate another project to connect Wi-Fi in CBDs that are not close to our offices but have a high number of people. Ekurhuleni has a 2 000km area and the Wi-Fi connectivity will not be available in every single part of the city. We are, however, targeting certain areas as a start and will certainly grow the number of hot spots around the city.”
