A suspect from the Vusimusi squatter camp who allegedly stole soccer boots was caught and assaulted by the community on Mokongwa Street in Birch Acres, on Thursday morning last week. The man later succumbed to his injuries.
According to the provincial police spokesman, Capt Tsekiso Mofokeng, a 30-year-old complainant put his soccer boots in front of his kitchen door before he entered his house.

“Later on he realised that someone had removed his soccer boots from where he had put them. He made inquiries in the surrounding area without success,” explained Mofokeng.
“He summoned his neighbour to investigate the matter and they saw two unknown males who were collecting empty bottles on the street, they approached them and one of them fled the scene.”
According to Mofokeng the one who remained had a bag with him, the bag was searched and the stolen soccer boots were found.
“The suspect was then taken back to the complainant’s house where the community members took turns assaulting him.”
Mofokeng pointed out that sticks and unknown objects were used to assault the suspect, who later died from injuries sustained during the attack.
The complainant was arrested together with five community members; a case of murder is under investigation at the Norkem Park police station.
