Two housebreakers were nailed by Sebenza SAPS on Tuesday when they turned into a dead end street in Esther Park.
The two were taken into custody after three warning shots had been fired. A third suspect escaped.
Apparently one of the men has been employed at a well-known security company.
The men allegedly broke into two houses, one on Leeu Crescent in Birchleigh and the other on Julia Street in Birchleigh North.
Their vehicle was spotted on De Wiekus Road in Van Riebeeck. They were followed by police to Civet Street, which is a dead end. There they jumped out of the vehicle and tried to escape through residents’ yards but two were cornered.
The car with the stolen goods was recovered on the scene.
According to provincial police spokesman, Capt Mofokeng, the arrests were made shortly after noon.
He said the Birchleigh homeowner left his house just before 7am to go to the gym. When he arrived back later that morning he found the house had been ransacked.
The two suspects will face charges of possession of stolen property.
