Ivory Park SAPS urged the community to be vigilant following an increase in house robberies in the area.
Communications officer, Warrant Officer Melda Sekgobela said a man was sleeping in his house in Ivory Park extension 2 on September 29 when he heard a knock at the door.
“He opened the door, thinking it was his brother. Two men, carrying knives, entered the house. They robbed him of his money and a cell phone,” she said.
“We urge the community to work with the police in order to fight this crime.”
Residents are encouraged to make use of these safety tips:
- Do not allow strangers onto your premises or into your house without them providing proper identification, especially at night.
- Security lights on the outside the house will improve security measures.
- Limit visibility into the house. Make sure your belongings are not visible from the outside when the lights are on.
- Make sure that the doors and windows are locked before you go to bed.
- Have a good relationship with your neighbours so that you will be in good position to support and help one another.
