Update: More areas to be affected due to pipe burst in Platberg

No time frame can be given

The water pipe on Platberg Street in Van Riebeeck Park burst for the third time in 24 hours this morning due to high air pressure.

According to Clr Jaco Terblanche, the water department has been informed and the valve has been recovered. “Unfortunately, due to masses of water flowing out of the pipe, the main line needs to be turned off which will affect even more areas,” said Terblanche.

When Express visited the site this morning, water was streaming down the road as well as through residents’ properties as the main line had not been turned off yet.

There is no estimated time as to when the water will be back on again and areas from Birchleigh through to Edleen and Kempton Park will be affected. Positions of water tankers will be confirmed as soon as Express has the details.
