WATCH: Western Cape officer shot at while ticketing offender

The brave officer ducks to the ground before drawing his weapon

CAPE Town traffic officer Nizaam Alexander was carrying out his duties when a random gunman shot at him at close range.

The incident happened on the N2 highway after Alexander had pulled over a motorist for driving in a yellow lane, according to Safely Home.

At first the gunman walked passt pretending to be just a pedestrian, but then he returns with a firearm in his hands and shoots at Alexander.

The brave officer ducks to the ground before drawing his weapon to fire back at the man.

Seeing that Alexander doesn’t back down, the gunman flees and the officer chases after him. Unable to catch him, Alexander returns to the vehicle to continue with his duties.

The incident was captured on his vehicle’s dashboard camera, and the video uploaded to YouTube by the Western Cape government’s “Safely Home” road safety campaign.
