The Ivory Park SAPS arrested a 35-year-old man for possession of a hijacked vehicle and unlicensed firearm.
The arrest occurred at Mafalandawonye Informal Settlement in Ivory Park, Extension 2, on Saturday last week.
The Ivory Park SAPS communications officer, Warrant Officer Neldah Sekgobela, said the police received information about a silver A3 Audi, which was hijacked in Klipfontein View near Rabie Ridge on Friday night.
“While the police were busy executing their duties in Ivory Park Extension 2, they came across with the same Audi with two occupants. The police stopped the vehicle. The passenger ran away but the police officers managed to apprehend the driver. The car was searched and a firearm with three live rounds was found,” said W/O Sekgobela.
The driver was unable to produce a licence for the firearm.
“The suspect was then arrested and taken to the Ivory Park SAPS for possession of a hijacked vehicle and an unlicensed firearm. The suspect is expected to appear in the Tembisa Magistrate’s Court. We are appealing to members of the community to come forward with information that could lead to the arrest of his accomplice, who is still at large,” said W/O Sekgobela.
