Mayor will hand over bursaries to deserving students

848 top learners will receive bursaries

THE executive mayor of Ekurhuleni, Clr Mondli Gungubele, will be awarding 848 top learners with bursaries through the city’s bursary scheme programme in Kempton Park city hall on Wednesday.

The city, which already pays bursaries for 406 learners, has set aside millions to increase the number of bursaries.

Ekurhuleni is the manufacturing hub of the country and Africa’s first aerotropolis, yet still does not have a university.

“While we work towards getting our own university, we believe that skills development, one way or the other, is the best way to go. We raised our growth and development strategy a few years ago and one of the major priorities is human capital development,” said mayoral spokesman, Zweli Dlamini.

The awarding of the bursaries is paired with the celebration of academic excellence, where the best performers in the matric class of 2015 will also be honoured.
