KEMPTON’S foreign national community has vowed to get revenge for what has happened to their fellow countryman on Saturday.
Daniel Timothy Chinedu (32) died shortly after he was arrested by police for being in possession of drugs. Residents threatened to avenge the Nigerian’s death by declaring war on the South African government.
They claim the police killed the father of three, whose wife and children live in Nigeria, by covering his face with a plastic bag until he suffocated to death.
Speaking on camera to Kempton Express on Saturday, Chinedu’s cousin, Edmond Onteka, said:
“This is not a question of the police’s statement, we all know what happened because this is not the first time. Even in Boksburg they killed five Nigerians. So we are tired of this rubbish, we will even take the law into our hands. If worse comes to worse we can even invite the Boko Haram since they (government) don’t want peace,” Onteka said.

On the day of the incident, hundreds of foreign nationals gathered outside Arwyp Medical Centre and demonstrated against what they thought was the killing of one of their own.
One of the men in the crowd even held up an enlarged photograph of the policeman they accuse of killing Chinedu.
A bystander told EXPRESS: “I saw that man (policeman) chasing him (Chinedu). And he’s killed a Nigerian before in Benoni. With this one I saw him chasing him (Chinedu) and he was begging him, ‘saying ‘boss no please, I didn’t do anything’,” the witness said.
He also said everyone, including himself, ran from the scene when the cops got to West Street where Chinedu was found.
In the meantime, the dead suspect’s family announced they wanted their own post mortem done. No post mortem results have been made public yet.
