AN Ekurhuleni Metro Police officer was murdered on Wednesday while fishing at a dam in Springs.
The body of Maj Coert Jordaan (39) was found lying in the grass at Aton Lake by an employee at around 2.30pm.
Jordaan, a Brakpan resident, was a member of the EMPD’s equestrian unit. He was on leave at the time of his death.
Capt Johannes Ramphora, Springs police spokesman, told Springs Advertiser: ““The deceased was lying on his back and had stab wounds on the left side of his upper body.”
The employee immediately called the police and ambulance services. Paramedics declared the man dead on the scene.
Upon further investigation the police found there was a struggle between the deceased and his attacker and that a sharp object was used to stab Jordaan, Ramphora said.
Other reports about the murder said Jordaan had been shot several times.
His vehicle and firearm had been stolen.
More information will follow as it becomes available.
