Last Izimbizo before local elections

Members of the mayoral committee will be spread throughout the city on February 17 and 18.

The executive mayor of Ekurhuleni, Clr Mondli Gungubele, and the mayoral committee will carry out the last Izimbizo for this current term of office in February.

The Izimbizo is a programme used by government representatives to account to communities on the work they are doing while also consulting communities for inputs in terms of taking the city forward.

“This is one of the most effective public consultation processes of government,” said mayoral spokesperson, Zweli Dlamini.

“When we go to communities, we do so with an open mind because we know we are a government of the people which must account, but must also be open to public criticism and advice.”

“The current term of local government office ends with the local government elections later in the year, having started in 2011. The executive mayor therefore believes it is proper that a report be given to communities before the hard work of campaigning gets into full gear,” he continued.

The mayoral Izimbizo programme has been the top priority for Gungubele who came into office in 2010. Every year, two rounds of these community sessions have been hosted.

Members of the mayoral committee will be spread throughout the city on February 17 and 18. Ten Izimbizo sittings are lined up for the two days, with the executive mayor visiting Langaville on the first day and Thokoza on the second.

Clrs Vivien Chauke and Thumbu Mahlangu will visit Kempton Park on February 18 at 5pm. The venue is the municipal park on the corner of Monument and Quinine roads (marquee).

The two will be at Rabasotho Hall in Tembisa at 5pm on February 17.
