JUST IN: Van Riebeeck father in ICU after being shot by intruder

There were two children in the house as well as the victim’s wife

TWO suspects are at a large, while their victim is in ICU following a house robbery on Majuba Street in Van Riebeeck Park just before 2am on Thursday morning.

The 40-year-old man was shot in his upper body during the incident, said Norkem Park SAPS spokesman, Capt Lesibana Molokomme.

PHS COPS, the police and ER24 are said to have been on the scene.

“The owner of the house heard footsteps and went to investigate. He was approached by two suspects and this was when shots were fired,” said Molokomme.

Molokomme said the victim was rushed to hospital. It is not clear how many bullet wounds he suffered but Molokomme said the family heard two shots being fired.

It is also not clear how the suspects entered the property.

“There were two children, aged seven and 10, as well as the victim’s wife in the house,” he added.

At this stage only a cellphone has been reported missing from the house. Cases of house robbery and attempted murder are being investigated.
