INVESTIGATIONS into the death of a Nigerian man in Kempton last month continue as no witnesses have come forward.
This is according to Independent Police Investigative Directorate (IPID) spokesperson, Robbie Raburabu, who spoke to EXPRESS on Tuesday afternoon regarding the death of Daniel Timothy Chinedu in police custody on January 23.

Chinedu died after allegedly being suffocated to death by police, the Nigerian community claimed. The police officers who had arrested him said he swallowed the drugs for which he was being detained.
Previously, the IPID had requested any witnesses or anyone with information to step forward and help with the investigations. Various people had spoken to the media, saying they saw the police suffocate Chinedu to death.
“But unfortunately none of them came forward. So no outcomes on the post mortem can be revealed yet as more tests linked with the post mortem are still being done,” Raburabu said.
He said it could take anything from a few months to a year, even longer, to complete the investigations.
In the meantime, an older brother of Chinedu’s confirmed the family would “probably not” conduct its own post mortem. He said the family was making plans to take the body, which is at Germiston Mortuary, back to Nigeria to be buried.
