A VW Golf 7 hijacked in Springs on Wednesday evening was recovered in Tembisa hours later.
This followed the recovery of a hijacked VW Polo, also in Tembisa, on Monday night.
Lt Col Wilfred Kgasago, metro police spokesman, said there seemed to be a group in Tembisa with friends in other areas who inform them about the availability of the vehicles targeted.
“We recover vehicles almost every week in Tembisa, either hijacked within Tembisa or elsewhere by criminals from Tembisa. Investigations are underway to identify those involved.”
In the latest incident EMPD loss control unit members and police officers worked together. The Golf, which was hijacked in Springs at about 7.30pm, was found at 9pm.
“On receiving the alert on the hijacked vehicle from the tracking company, the law enforcers traced the vehicle to Swababa Street in Lekaneng Section in Tembisa. Feeling the heat from law enforcers, the culprits decided to abandon the vehicle. The vehicle was found intact,” he said.
