No response to sinkhole complaints

On December 18, a resident sent a letter to the roads department at the metro, for which he never received a response

POMONA residents have expressed their dissatisfaction with the metro’s roads department after two sinkholes have gone unfixed.

Jakobus Jonker registered a complaint about one of the sinkholes, at the corner of Outeniqua and Barlinka streets, in December.

On December 18, Jonker sent a letter to the roads department at the metro but never received a response and nothing was done regarding the sinkholes. He also forwarded the letter to provincial level.

“In the meantime, exactly the same problem arose at the intersection of Barlinka Street and Fouche Avenue. This kind of attitude from the metro towards service delivery to ratepayers is unacceptable,” Jonker said.

The sinkhole at the corner of Fouche Avenue and Barlinka Street is in front of a residential estate with cars constantly coming in and out of the estate.

It is also situated at a corner, causing traffic congestion and making it difficult for cars to turn in and out of Barlinka Street.

Express is still waiting for comment from the metro.
