
Around about 1pm on February in Olifantsfontein a security officer was hijacked and his firearm taken.
His Toyota Yaris patrol vehicle was found abandoned at 6pm at Winnie Mandela in Tembisa. The victim works for BhekaniAbantu security company. The firearm taken from the officer was a Norinco 9mm pistol.
“Two members of the EMPD Loss Control Unit joined the BhekaniAbantu officers at 5.45pm when word was received that the vehicle was sighted at Winnie Mandela settlement. Investigations revealed that the vehicle was abandoned at 2pm along Mathebula street at Winnie Mandela settlement. In-depth investigations are underway to bring to book the culprits responsible for the hijacking and robbery,” said EMPD spokesperson Lieutenant Colonel Wilfren Kgasago.
