The Ivory Park SAPS arrested a 31-year-old man in Ivory Park, Extension 2, for allegedly raping a woman who is eight months pregnant.
It is believed the incident took place on Monday morning last week.
The Ivory Park SAPS communications officer, Warrant Officer Neldah Sekgobela, said the victim was returning from a church in Johannesburg with her friend when they saw a man sitting nearby the side of the road with a basin full of clothes.
“They women fled, but the victim couldn’t get away as she is heavily pregnant. The suspect managed to grab her and he promised not to cause her any harm. He then asked her to help him carry his luggage. The woman helped him. The suspect then allegedly raped the victim twice,” W/O Sekgobela said.
According to W/O Sekgobela, the 31-year-old man instructed the victim to accompany him to his house.
“On arrival, the victim noticed that the suspect’s house was not far from her home. She later asked the suspect to release her so that she could check on her friend, who was at a nearby house. The woman did not mention that they were near to her home. Permission was granted but on agreement that he goes with her so that she didn’t escape,” said W/O Sekgobela.
“On arrival, she knocked on the door of her sister’s room, while the suspect waited nearby. The victim managed to tell her sister what had happened. The sister then convinced the suspect to enter the house. She then called the police who arrested the man for rape at the woman’s house,” said W/O Sekgobela.
