Still no water for some: hydrants to be opened

The hydrants are expected to remain open until this afternoon

MANY residents still have no water or experience very low water pressure this morning after maintenance work done on Tuesday.

To rectify this problem many fire hydrants in the affected areas will be opened this morning to get rid of all air in the pipelines, ward councillor Jaco Terblanche said. The hydrants are expected to remain open until this afternoon.

Hydrants in Glen Marais had already been opened at 11.30pm last night. Areas severely affected are sections of Glen Marais, Allen Grove and Nimrod Park.

BAD NEWS: Water to stay off for several more hours

Angry residents vented their dissatisfaction on social media on Tuesday when the planned water shutdown did not go as planned. To do the necessary maintenance work, water was supposed to be off from 8pm on Monday evening to 3am on Tuesday morning. However, many Kemptonians woke up without water.

According to Terblanche a valve replaced on Albatross Street started leaking when the water was turned back on, on Tuesday morning. This resulted in another shutdown which lasted until about 6pm last night.

Terblanche said pressure should build up quickly once the hydrants had been opened.

Through all this the metro not once gave any update on the situation.

In the meantime, Express has learned that another water shutdown could be implemented on Thursday evening from 8pm until 2am. This would be necessary to replace another valve and fix a pipe which is still leaking.

At the time of publishing we could not confirm this.

Terblanche said residents without water or with low water pressure must WhatsApp their addresses to him at 083-413-2420.
