Toastmasters celebrate leap year
The highlight of the evening was a visiting Toastmaster from Germany
KEMPTON Park Toastmasters celebrated leap year on February 18 with an exciting and packed programme.
Four speakers adorned the programme, plus an educational item presented by Dr Ian Bratt, a long-standing member from Benoni Toastmasters.
Among the speakers were a competent communicator 1, Tanya LaCock, the club’s newest member who is just beginning her Toastmasters journey; Maureen Boltt, who completed her competent communicator 3, Clinton Etheridge, who completed his ninth competent communicator and club coach Thabo Malefane, who completed his journey in the competent communicator track with his tenth speech.
The competent communicator is the first level you begin with in the communication side of Toastmasters, which teaches basic speaking and presenting skills.
Each level builds on the previous with a specific skill, from structuring your speech to body language and vocal variety. The skills learned within this phase are invaluable for all presentations and speeches.
The highlight of the evening was visitor, Dr Hartmut Domrose, who was from Germany on business and is a Toastmaster in Germany.
He gave an overview of what he thought about the local club.
