Calculator experts from Japan pay a visit to Birchleigh
The guests were treated to a home cooked South African lamb and vegetable lunch
HOËRSKOOL Birchleigh enjoyed a one-day visit from Casio Japan as well as James Ralph, the South African distributor of Casio products, on February 24.
Casio develops calculators to suit the needs of specific countries’ needs.
The aim of the visit was for the Japanese delegation in particular to speak to pupils and teachers in mathematics classes.
The delegation asked questions about the curriculum, how often pupils replaced calculators and in which subjects they used it.
In return, pupils could also ask questions ranging from Japanese animation to future new models of calculators and Casio apps on smartphones.
The guests were treated to a home-cooked South African lamb and vegetable lunch and met with the teachers to discuss the South African curriculum in depth and also hear teachers’ problems with the usage of the Casio calculators.
