School’s blood drive yields 100 units

The blood drive is one of 30 projects the school will be running throughout the year

LAERSKOOL Van Riebeeck collected 100 units of blood on Saturday, during their blood drive initiative.

The blood drive is one of the 30 projects the school will be running throughout the year, as part of their 30th birthday celebrations.

All 30 classes at the school will participate, each undertaking their own community project, that is meaningful and has an impact on the community.

This blood drive was arranged by teacher Lizzie Schoeman’s Grade 2E class.

According to school governing body member Dawid Brand, the aim of the projects is to make a difference within the community.

“We wanted to create something of a legacy, to know that the kids and the school contributed to making the community better, which is why we want all the initiatives to be within the Kempton area and to benefit the people of the town,” he said.

“We’re also hoping the projects are not just a once-off contribution. Something like a blood drive will make a huge and permanent difference, because it has the potential to save many people’s lives.”

Other projects in the pipeline include old-age home visits and becoming involved with cancer organisations.
