VIDEO: Thieves flee after attempted break-in at funeral home

The thieves gained access through breaking the gate open

THIEVES were forced to flee the premises of Martin’s Funeral Home when the alarm sounded after an attempted break-in.

The incident happened on Saturday evening around 8pm on Heide Road. Fortunately nothing was stolen.

“The thieves gained access by breaking the gate open. Once they were in the yard the beams went off and Smart Security informed us about the alarm. When we got to the premises the gate was broken and open,” said Nellie Bruwer, manager at the funeral home.

Bruwer said on the CCTV footage they could only see two men in the yard but there must have been more in the car in front of the gate.

“We just want to warn people and nearby businesses to be on the lookout and be vigilant at all times. Luckily we got off with minimum damage,” said Bruwer.
