Young people promote the arts
The group has performed at local and national art festival competitions.
The Sello Sa Tlou Performing Arts Group is one of Tembisa’s prominent and multi-talented performing art groups.
The Winne Mandela-based group was established in 2012 and consists of 43 members.
The group has performed at local and national art festival competitions.
At present, the group has received about 15 trophies, which were awarded for taking part in various competitions.
According to the Sello Sa Tlou Performing Arts Group founder, Mr Sello McDonald Malebana (23), the organisation was formed in a bid to get children off the streets.
“We want to help young people keep busy when they are not at school and avoid crime. They should realise their talent and use it for a better future.
“We are aiming to expose the talent and produce professional, upcoming artists,” said Mr Malebana.
The Sello Sa Tlou Performing Art Group is targeting young people from the age of 10 to 28 years old.
The group is marketing themselves at the malls, parks, events, social media and on the street.
Mr Malebana said he thanks those parents who have been supportive and made donations towards the group.
“Some of the artists’ parents are really giving us hope by donating attire, helping with transport and other things. We are appealing to the local business people and individuals to help sponsor the group,” said Mr Malebana.
His message to the youth is that young people should respect and listen to their parents and go to school.
“Life of today needs educated minds. Let’s go to school,” said Mr Malebana.
