POLICE have urged young women not to accept lifts from strangers, after a teen girl was brutally assaulted when she refused to have sex with a man who gave her a lift.
The 18-year-old schoolgirl was stabbed several times with a sharp object in the head, ears, hands and fingers by the man.
According to Kempton police’s spokesperson, Capt Jethro Mtshali, the girl and her younger sister, also a teenager, were walking from school on March 2 when they were approached by a man in a silver BMW, who offered them a lift home.

“The girls allege they got into the car with the man and drove with him to a flat on Pretoria Road,” Mtshali explained.
“Once there, they allegedly had drinks with the man.” While they were there, the older teen went to the toilet and when she came back, was confronted by the man who instructed her to take off her clothes and tried to force himself on her.
When she resisted, the man assaulted her and stabbed her with a sharp object. Her younger sister tried to intervene and was also injured in the process.
The girls managed to get away and went to a hospital where they were treated for their injuries.
“As a result, the station commander, Brig Bertha Kgoroba, is urging teenagers and children not to accept lifts from strangers, as this could lead to them becoming victims of rape and even murder.”
Detectives are investigating a case of attempted murder and attempted rape but no arrests have been made.
“We hope an arrest will be made soon, as the girls also know the name of the perpetrator.”
