VIDEO: Stassen abandons bail application – again

The matter was being postponed the last few appearances because the investigating officer had been away on leave

GIDEON Stassen is playing a back and forth game as he yet again abandoned his bail application.

Stassen (43) and his girlfriend, Chantelle Justine Minnott (31), made a brief appearance in court on Thursday morning.

The couple is accused of murdering Stassen’s 78-year-old mother, Annatjie, on November 16.

For the last few appearances, the matter kept being postponed because the investigating officer, Maj Jan Klynhans, had been away on leave.

Yesterday morning Klynhans was finally set to testify on Stassen’s bail application after a new address, where he could stay if granted bail, was given.

But instead of the court hearing from the officer, defence lawyer Charlie van Tonder asked for the matter to be postponed and taken back to Regional Court 2, where the court would hear if the trial would finally begin.

“At this stage we are abandoning the bail application provisionally and we can send the matter back to Regional Court 2, Your Worship,” Van Tonder told the court.

“Once we’re ready and the addresses have been sorted out, we’ll reposition, if necessary, in that regard.”

The matter was moved back to Regional 2 court again to be heard on March 16.
