MALCOLM Foster (71) first donated blood when he was just 18 years old. Now, 53 years later, he has reached the 251st pint mark.
On Wednesday, March 16, Foster donated blood at the South African National Blood Service (SANBS) Central Avenue Kempton Park branch, making it 118,767 litres of blood donated in his life.
“The first time I donated blood was with a friend of mine – it was a joint venture by friends,” he joked.

From Bonaero Park but originally from England, he said he would only stop saving lives with his blood when he was six feet under.
Sister Lana Smit from the SANBS Kempton Park branch said it was wonderful to still be healthy and able to donate blood at more than 70 years old.
“I hope he becomes a role model to donors to continue saving lives and also encourage those who haven’t started, to start,” said Smit.
Smit also pointed out that with the Easter holidays coming up, there would be a huge need for blood donations.
“We really need people to come and donate blood and save lives, especially during this season.”
