All women invited to lace up and play netball

Entry is free for spectators

TEAM Fitness Netball Club will host a Lace Up and Play Netball Tournament on April 23 and all women are invited.

The event will take place at 37 Rigger Road, Cresslawn.

Club and committee member Esther Makore said Team Fitness Netball Club was founded with a purpose of making a difference in the lives of women with various health conditions, such as cancer, fibrosis, Crohn’s disease, endometriosis, bowel obstruction, colitis and so on. It also aims to make a difference in the lives of children who are less privileged.

“Due to rising cases of unknown and known diseases caused by obesity and lack of activity, we have opened our doors to all women around Kempton Park who are interested in exercising while having fun,” she said.

The club is based in Kempton Park West at the municipal park.

“We are inviting women in our community to come and watch us play so that they can get motivated to start getting involved in sporting activities to minimise the risks of health problems.”

“Our message to the community is, you can do something to improve your health no matter how old or big your body is, it is possible. We have women with bad past health experiences and now they have improved so much through netball.”

Makore said she had been a very sickly person before playing netball.

“I was suffering from so many diseases and underwent 13 surgeries, but for the first time in more than five years, this March is my first year without a surgery because I am now fit. There are other sports that work as well but we have chosen netball.”

Registration will start at 8am and matches will start at 9am and run the whole day.

“There is no cost for the supporters and all those who are just coming to watch. There is only a R500 affiliation/registration fee for the teams that will be participating.”

Prizes will be given to the first three team winners.

“This is our second tournament to host. We held a charity tournament on 22 August last year, where we donated some toiletries to Tumelo Home in Ivory Park, Tembisa,” said Makore.
