Cocaine and guns seized at R21 police roadblock

The operation was a joint effort between the SAPS and metro police officers

COCAINE worth R10 000 and two firearms were seized during Operation Paseka on Wednesday afternoon on the R21 highway.

According to the SAPS’s Twitter page, the guns belonged to an unknown motorist who quickly tried to get rid of the weapons, probably after realising there was a roadblock.

Three suspects were also arrested during the operation.

The operation was a joint effort between the SAPS and metro police officers as part of efforts to create police visibility and keep roads safe just in time for the Easter weekend.

Police and metro cops checked motorists’ cars for a number of things, including roadworthiness, expired driver’s licences and anything else suspicious or illegal.

The roadblock caused major traffic delays for a few hours, especially going towards R21 north. Traffic was also backed up from the R23 (Benoni off-ramp) going towards Pretoria Road, Kempton.
