Motorcyclist flies over car in early morning accident

'There was absolutely no time for Pierre to even attempt to brake, the car was just too fast'

A 29-year-old Kempton resident, Pierre Joubert, suffered a serious femur injury when he was hit by a car on his Honda motorcycle on March 16.

To him it felt like he was skidding on the right side of his face and shoulder over the road forever, until he just lay there, feeling a sharp pain in his left leg.

The accident happened on the corner of Van Riebeeck Road and Pienaar Avenue around 7.30am.

“Everything happened so fast. I don’t even think Pierre realised he was in an accident until he found himself lying on the tar road,” said eyewitness Conrad Scheepers, who assisted Joubert after the incident.

Joubert was approaching the stop street when an Elantra reportedly hit his motorcycle with its front right tyre, causing Joubert and his bike to fly over the car.

“There was absolutely no time for Pierre to even attempt to brake, the car was just too fast,” said Scheepers.

“As I was lying there, I started to pray for strength to get through the situation. I knew it was serious. When my eyes focused, I could only see my left leg. I pushed it down and an overwhelming pain shot through it. I knew something was definitely very wrong,” explained Joubert.

Joubert was assisted by paramedics and taken to Arwyp.

His femur was broken in three places and doctors operated on March 17 to straighten the bone with screws and pins.

The operation was successful and after spending five days in hospital, Joubert is now recovering at home with his wife and two doggie children.
