Ekurhuleni Metro has announced yet another emergency water shutdown which could last up to five days, affecting several suburbs around down.

The water supply in Kempton Park extensions, Edleen, Van Riebeeck Park and Glen Marais will be shut down from Sunday.

In a statement released on Friday morning the metro said a pipe burst on De Wiekus Road in Van Riebeeck Park on Friday morning. It was decided by the metro that the shutdown was necessary to repair the pipe and replace several valves at all the major problem areas to ensure that the water problem was something of the past.

Teams of municipal workers have already been assembled to tackle this emergency operation head-on.

Water tankers will be placed at Allen Park and all major shopping centres in the affected areas for the duration of the outage.

The metro will officially shut down the water at 8am on Sunday and hopes to finish repairs by Wednesday or Thursday next week.

Residents in the affected areas are urged to stock up on water supplies in advance.

Traffic delays are expected on roads where the valves will be repaired.

Other areas that could be affected are Aston Manor, Nimrod Park, Allen Grove, Glen Erasmia, Pomona and Bonaero Park.
