Avoid the M1 north following a shootout between robbers and police
There are heavy delays approaching the scene
Motorists are urged to avoid the M1 north at the Grayston off-ramp in Wynberg North following a shootout earlier this afternoon.
Max Cohen, spokesman for Emer-G-Med, said they received a call just after 2.30pm this afternoon. They found three suspects had been shot by the police.
One was in a critical condition, while the other two sustained minor to moderate injuries.
It’s believed the suspects were involved in an armed house robbery and fled in the victim’s car. The police were able to track the vehicle and followed it. The suspects then opened fire on the police officers, resulting in the shootout.
The suspects were treated for their injuries on-scene before being transported to a nearby facility under police guard by another private ambulance service.
