EMM installs high-mast lights

Three more high masts are allocated for ward 90.

The Ekurhuleni Metropolitan Municipality’s (EMM) spokesperson, Mr Themba Gadebe, has confirmed that two high-masts for ward 10 were installed.

“The identified sites from the ward councillor are Mali Street (the open space next to the church in Welamlambo) and Broadbill Crescent, 486 Mpho Section.

“High-masts were installed and we need to install new service connections to them. Street lights are surveyed on a regular basis and repairs are done as surveyed and reported,” said Mr Gadebe.

This comes after a recent report from the DA’s Lethabong Constituency Chairperson, Clr Phillip Thamahane.

Clr Thamahane said he will be following up on the progress made by the Department of Energy in this regard, to ensure the residents of Tembisa receive the quality services they deserve.

Mr Gadebe said three more high masts are allocated for ward 90.

“The identified sites from the ward councillor are the Vusimuzi Informal Settlement next to the Mooifontein Cemetery, Cairo Street behind Ehlanzeni Hostel and Cabinda Street in Vusimuzi. High-mast foundations have already been placed on-site for a total of 29 masts, which have been allocated for the whole of Tembisa. The service provider is currently installing high-mast poles in other sections,” said Mr Gadebe.

Mr Gadebe said Vusimuzi and Ehlanzeni sections are experiencing high rates of illegal connections taken from street light circuits. This hampers the effective operation of street lights, even after the repairs are done.
