Motorcycle accident victim is on the road to recovery

Venter has already undergone three major reconstructive surgeries

A 27-year-old Terenure resident, Jan Venter, who was involved in a motorcycle accident in Van Riebeeck Park on March 23, has been taken off life support in Arwyp on Friday.

“His recovery is slow but also good at the same time. He is still in a lot of pain but it is doing well,” said Jan’s father, Gert Venter.

Venter has undergone reconstructive surgery on his jaw, shoulder, arm, nose, sinuses and eyebrows.

“Doctors are happy with his recovery thus far. He has been breathing on his own for 24 hours on Thursday, so it looks like he will be taken off life support soon but will still remain in ICU,” Venter’s father said.

Venter was left in a critical condition after a side impact accident at the intersection of De Wiekus Road and Drakensberg Street on March 23 around 11.30am.

The impact of the collision made the car, driven by a woman, overturn onto its side. Venter was flung over the car, hitting the road on the other side.

The woman in the car was uninjured.
