Residents gather to clean up graveyards

Families remember their loved ones.

The community of Tembisa flocked to all Tembisa cemeteries on March 28 to clean and rebuild loved ones’ tombstones.

Every year, Easter Monday is a day observed by many families to remember their loved ones who have died.

“We are here to clean my grandmother’s grave and take this day to remember her,” said Ms Busisiwe Sekgomane (33).

Ms Sekgomane said it is the community’s responsibility to take care of graveyards and they should take advantage of this culture and come to restore tombstones.

“People must not forget the dead and this day has always been observed as we grew up. Don’t forget your culture,” she said.

“I am happy that my daughter took this initiative and sacrificed a lot of things to observe the day and came to clean my mother’s grave,” said Ms Matlakala Sekgomane (50).

“The young must never shun culture,” she said.
