UPDATE: Online registration for grade 1 and 8 learners goes live

An announcement should be made by at 2pm

Gauteng Education MEC, Panyaza Lesufi, has announced the department’s online applications website went live at 2.30pm.

Lesufi says all parents have until June to apply 1.

The province’s online system registers children for grade 1 and 8.

Gauteng Education MEC Panyaza Lesufi has come under heavy criticism on social media from parents who have been made to wait for hours to register their children online for the 2017 academic year today.

Online applications for grade 1 and 8 pupils wwere supposed to have opened at 8am but was delayed until 10am due to a technical glitch. However, 10am came and at noon the site was still not functional.

The department earlier this morning said its online registration website was set to go live at 10am after a two-hour delay due to a technical glitch.

The process had to be postponed last week due to a number of problems with the portal, which led it to crash.

The Gauteng MEC for Education, Panyaza Lesufi, is expected to make an announcement at 2pm.
