SAFARI Golf Club, a charitable social golf club of 65 members, handed over R400 000 to two charities – Little Eden, caring for people with intellectual disabilities, and the Abraham Kriel Childcare Centre.
Each institution received R200 000.
The club was founded in Kempton Park in 1978 and holds a bi-annual charity golf day. More than R1.2-million has already been donated by the club over the years.
The 2016 event was held on April 14 at Germiston Golf Club. The amounts handed over were a record for Safari Golf Club with the previous highest donation being R150 000 to Miles for Smiles in 2014.
The chairman, Peps Pretorius, thanked all sponsors (the largest one being Oberon Pharma), all participants and committee member André van Heerden who steered the project.
