Critically ill Chadé (6) admitted to Red Cross hospital

The pediatric professor will see her on Tuesday

WITH the help of numerous kind hearted people across the country who opened their wallets to help Chadé van Niekerk (6) and her family get to the Red Cross Memorial Children’s Hospital in Cape Town, they managed to arrive safely on Friday evening.

It was critical to get Chadé to the hospital within 48 hours, her mother Charlotte Diedericks explained on Friday afternoon.

She was admitted on Saturday morning and the pediatric professor will see her on Tuesday. He is her only hope at this stage.

“We are so grateful and overwhelmed to the kind hearted people who responded so quickly on the article. Within five hours we were on a plane to Cape Town and we could get my daughter to the hospital to ensure she gets the treatment that could save her life. She is still a bit weak but she is fighting,” said Diedericks.

Chadé is on a drip to ensure she does not dehydrate.

“I don’t even know where to start to thank everyone. There is so many people who made cash donations and thank you to Dave that sponsored our flight tickets. The flight was stressful but we had a great landing.

“To the people here in Rondebosch who let us stay in their flat for five days and will then sponsor two nights in a guesthouse for us, thank you. Our God is so good.”

The Grade 1 learner from Laerskool Birchleigh, who was diagnosed with hollow visceral myopathy in May last year, received a colostomy bag a while ago and stool is not draining into the bag, only bloody water.

After many tests and surgeries, the pediatric surgeon at Kloof Hospital suggested they take Chadé to the pediatric professor at the Red Cross hospital who knows everything about her illness.

Diedericks also opened a Facebook page, Gebed vir Chade to keep everyone updated.
