UPDATE: Three fire and rescue teams try to free trapped horse

With 45 minutes into the operation, the sedation is starting to wear off

UPDATE: SHE IS FREE AFTER FOUR HOURS

A horse being rescued from a manhole in Tembisa has gone into shock shortly after rescue operations have started.

Her heart rate is being monitored and seems to be uneven.

The digging has been completed and grinders are being used to cut the concrete away.

The noise of these machines will further upset the animal.

The concrete is being broken away from the top to the bottom at the moment with fire and rescue teams from Ekurhuleni, Pretoria and Johannesburg working together.

With 45 minutes into the operation, the sedation is starting to wear off and it is expected the animal will start panicking then.

The animal does not know that the humans are working to save her and has become distressed, as she believes she is going to die.
